Quick answers

Help & frequently asked questions

Choose a tool from the Workspace menu, enter or select your data, then use the tool’s actions to process it.

What can I do here?

Text tools help transform, compare, search, and inspect text. Data tools work with CSV, JSON, YAML, and XML. Utilities convert Unix timestamps and local dates, generate or validate UUIDs, and check WCAG color contrast. File Tools can preview, search, checksum, find exact duplicates, resize/convert/compress images, rename, compare, and combine selected files. Document Converters can convert Word, PDF, text, Markdown, HTML, RTF, OpenDocument Text, Excel, and CSV files locally; PDF pages can also be exported as PNG images. Archive Tools can create or inspect supported archives. Many tools include a “Try an example” button that fills sample input and runs the operation so you can see the result before using your own data.

How do I use a file tool?

  1. Select files or a folder in File Tools or Archive Tools.
  2. Choose an action such as preview, search, compare, or prepare an archive.
  3. Review the result and explicitly download it if you want to keep a copy.

Archive formats depend on the operation and browser memory available. The archive screen lists the formats supported by its file picker.

What do Document Converters preserve?

Word, PDF, RTF, and OpenDocument Text conversions are text-first and do not preserve page layout, images, tables, formulas, or advanced formatting. PDF to Word extracts selectable text into a new editable document; scanned pages require OCR and are not recognized. Excel conversions use only the first worksheet; CSV does not retain workbook formatting. PDF pages can be rendered to PNG and downloaded together in a ZIP file.

How do the new utilities work?

Time & Timestamp treats date/time input as your device’s local time and shows ISO output in UTC; Unix timestamps can be entered in seconds or milliseconds. UUID Tools generates random version 4 UUIDs using the browser’s secure random API and checks UUID formatting. Color Contrast checks hex colors against WCAG AA and AAA text contrast ratios. These tools run locally in your browser.

Are my inputs uploaded?

The app processes tool inputs in your browser and does not send them to an application processing service. See Privacy & Data Handling for details, including the distinction between app behavior and hosting logs.

Why is a file preview empty or incomplete?

Text preview is intended for text files. Binary files may not display meaningfully as text, and very large inputs can use substantial browser memory. Try a smaller file or a format appropriate for the selected tool.

What does Image Tools do to my image?

It creates a separate downloadable copy, keeps the image’s aspect ratio, and does not enlarge images beyond their original dimensions. Animated images are exported as a still image; JPEG output uses a white background. The original file remains unchanged.

Can I undo a change?

Some tools, such as Text Processor and Find & Replace, provide undo and redo controls. Other tools leave the original input unchanged and display a separate result; copy or download the result when you are ready.
